The simplemargins package can be found at /mit/sipb/share/tex/macros/simplemargins.sty if you simply want to render your document to another format and don't care about future editing. If you are working on a document using this package, we recommend you convert it to use the geometry package instead. This package was created by SIPB and is not part of standard LaTeX distributions. You may see older LaTeX files at MIT that use the simplemargins package. This may interact poorly with other packages. For example, if you use the init() option or texdoc init to change the LATEX document in the nested do-file, texdoc closes the new LATEX document and switches.
Are you running Windows and TexLive 2014 Switch to TexLive 2015 (issue with dos-style paths). The fullpage package, simply by virtue of including it, will change your document to use 1 inch margins on all sides. On Debian and Ubuntu, you need to make sure you have thetexlive-latex-extra package installed. Participants are strongly advised to attend the course 'LaTeX Basics - Professional Document Preparation' beforehand to acquire. The \oddsidemargin and the \evensidemargin are both changed because LaTeX has two side margins, one for odd pages and one for even pages. Postgraduate students in Science and Engineering disciplines who have basic experience with LaTeX and will use LaTeX for preparing larger-scale documents such as reports and thesis. These commands decrease the margin on one side then increase the text size by double that decreased amount, thereby decreasing both the left and right margins (or top and bottom in the second group of commands) by the same amount. Bottom line: If you need to write a short letter, a cover page, or a report to the administration, who thinks LaTeX is something kinky, you are best of writing.

Its producing pdf that appear to be 'cropped' on top (see attached) - Ive tried already with changing the 'margins' option (Preferences>General) but unsuccessfully - dont think thats the problem. These commands would be placed in the preamble of your document (prior to \begin). I am using LaTeXiT (pierre chachatelier, - latex equation editor for Powerpoint for mac.
